The Queens-based rapper Chinx was reported dead after an early morning drive-by shooting on Sunday.

Born Lionel Pickens, the 31-year-old rapper was shot multiple times by an unknown assailant while parked in his Porsche at a stoplight at the corner of Queens Blvd and 84th Drive in Queens. Pickens’ passenger and friend Antar Alziadi also suffered multiple gunshots. Both men were taken to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center after the incident. Pickens died in the hospital’s care while Alziadi was brought to stable condition.

Talented and Promising, Pickens’ career had been picking up considerable momentum the last few years through the Cocaine Riot mixtapes he collaborated on with French Montana’s Coke Boys group. His first LP Welcome To JFK was scheduled for release later this year.

When the shooting occurred, he was coming home from a Saturday night performance at the Redwolf in Brooklyn and driving Alziadi to a subway station. No suspects are currently in custody and police are currently inspecting surveillance footage from the scene of the crime.

The local community, as well as the hip-hop community at large, has been shaken by the death. A shrine has been placed at the site of the shooting and mourners gathered near the rapper’s home on Sunday.

Following the shoting, Meek Mill tweeted, “The hood gotta stop glorifying suckas that kill good people!” Jay Z has said, “We are seriously under attack like never before.” Pickens is survived by his two children.
