Damon Lindelof wants Lobot to come back to the Star Wars franchise.
Don’t know who Lobot is? Not sure who Damon Lindelof is? You’re not the only ones. Lindelof is the co-creator of Lost, co-writer of the J.J. Abrams Star Trek films, and the writer behind the new cooler-premiste-than-actual-movie George Clooney/Disney joint Tomorrowland.
Lindelof credits Star Wars for his presence in Hollywood and admits excitement for the idea of stand-alone movies in the genre much like Marvel Studios has done for their comic book characters.
The character that most intrigues Lindelof, according to a quote he gave Digital Spy, is Lobot, who can be found in Cloud City on the planet Bespin. First mentioned in The Empire Strikes Back, Lobot has become a key component of the films and books in the expanded SW Universe.
Why Lobot? If you know Star Wars, then you know that he was a petty criminal, the son of a slaver, who has himself then forced into slavery. He became bald when the device that he wears on his head was attached because having hair around for brain surgery isn’t a good idea. When Lando Calrissian took over control of Cloud City, Lobot began working for him instead.
There are some key questions that could be answered. What does “Lo” mean? Can he really be considered a “bot” since he wears fewer mechanical items than a Cyberman in Doctor Who or the Borg in Star Trek?
The force is strong in those who wish to make a Lobot movie. You can join the campaign to do so by utilizing the #BringBackLobot hashtag on social media.
