The Hollywood Reporter yesterday revealed the casting of rap superstar Common in DC Entertainment’s upcoming supervillain flick Suicide Squad.

What role the Like Water for Chocolate rapper will play has yet to be unveiled, but he’ll be joining the likes of Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto and Cara Delevingne to name just a few.

Suicide Squad from DC will focus on a crew of DC villains forced to link up after being imprisoned. The film will draw lightly on the DC comics series of the same name, but more so from the updated stories and back stories  of various DC villains in various recent series.

The crew will include Deadshot, Captain Boomerang, The Enchantress, Rick Flagg and the two most important villains moving forward, backwards or any direction at all for DC: The Joker and the woman whose heart is forever his– Harley Quinn. With The Wolf of Wall Street’s Margot Robbie bringing her skills to the psychotic lovesick sycophant, only one man could be tasked with taking the reigns of the super-est supervillain–last played by our boy Heath Ledger in his posthumous Academy-winning turn–of The Joker, Mister Jared Leto, hot off the tails of his own Oscar win.

So with so many villains to portray, or possibly even heroes in the kind of world they’re occupying, it’s really all up in the air who Common could be playing. Our guess? Chronos or Darkseid could definitely use a killer film adaptation. But would the ultimately rad Darkseid be too big a crook to feature in just a team frame? Who knows. The Shadow knows… no, just kidding. He’s not even DC universe. But he’ll probably be in a Marvel-style super-franchise universe along with every remotely recognizable character in any comic book ever printed.
