On March 21st, New Jersey legalization activists will gather outside the Statehouse to show support for marijuana legalization and spread the message of an even greener garden state.
The New Jersey Spring Smoke Out demonstration will start at the Trenton Transit Centre, where the group will walk from 2pm from the Transit River Line Station to the Statehouse. From 4pm onwards, the group will then “smoke out” the Statehouse by lighting up right across the street.
According to the group, New Jersey’s legalization movement lacks the street presence that contributed to success in Washington and Colorado. Ed Forchion, aka NJ Weedman, has also stated in a recent interview that the movement is very similar to the civil rights movement. Forchion remarked that the event itself is an act of civil disobedience and hoped to catch public attention.
Another rally was hosted back in October and had over 250 participants, 75 of whom smoked weed in protest. Organisers for the March event include the Coalition for Medical Marijuana, Delaware NORML, CB Delaware, The Legalise Marijuana Party, the East Coast Cannabis Coalition, Decarcerate the Garden State, Fully Baked Radio, Legalise Marijuana in Atlantic City and more. Ed Forchion also stated that they hope to include a new activist group that has recently been formed, the Coalition for Medical Marijuana New Jersey.
