Penalties for showing up positive for marijuana in a drug test are severe, and a media frenzy can be expected whenever a player tests positive, but one anonymous general manager told Bleacher Report that smoking weed is no big deal in the NFL.

Randy Gregory failed his drug test at the NFL combine last month. “I blame myself,” Gregory said at the time. Maybe he blames himself for not being as good at cheating the drug test as some other players.

The GM however is optimistic that the NFL will catch up with the wave of legalization and tolerance that’s sweeping over the rest of the country.


As the rules stand currently, an NFL player can be suspended or fined for testing positive for marijuana use.
