Two people have been shot and killed at a cannabis dispensary in Los Angeles on Monday. Los Angeles police believe the incident to be a robbery gone wrong, as reported by the LA Times.
On Monday at 4:20 a.m., officers responded to a reported shooting at a dispensary on the 400 block of Western Avenue. Upon arriving at the scene, authorities found a “locked and secured” dispensary, according to an official statement from the Los Angeles Police Department.
When officers were able to enter the dispensary they found two shooting victims who were later pronounced dead the scene.
It’s unclear if any other witnesses were on the scene when the LAPD arrived, but according to the police statement, officers contacted a female employee of the dispensary who told them that she was at the dispensary when the shooting occurred.
She said that she and several other customers were in another room when they heard shots fired in the waiting room and then fled the dispensary through a back door.
The statement also said that this is an active investigation and the names of the victims have not yet been released, nor has the name of the marijuana dispensary involved. However, reporters from High Times did a little digging and found that while there is no licensed dispensary in public records on the 400 block of Western Avenue, WeedMaps does list an establishment which says it is open 24 hours a day.
Police are urging anyone with information on the crime to contact West Bureau Homicide at 213-382-9470, on nights and weekends at the weekends at 877-527-3247, or leave an anonymous tip at 1-800-222-TIPS or www.lapdonline.org.
