Mark this down on your New Year’s Resolutions list: go to Mike Tyson’s getaway cannabis ranch. All you have to do is drive to the remote desert town of California City (a little over 100 miles from Los Angeles), wait for the Heavyweight Champion of the Moon to actually build and open the resort, and then pay an as yet unknown fee to get in.

The plans for the 40 acre “Tyson Ranch,” according to The Blast, include a kind of one stop shop for almost any marijuana enterprise you can think of. Among them:

  • A grow facility for high quality strains, both those focused on THC and those focused on CBD, that “will allow master growers to have maximum control of their environment.”
  • Extraction facility.
  • Edibles factory.
  • “Aims at advancing the research on the health benefits of marijuana.”
  • Tyson Cultivation School, where growers can learn “the latest and greatest ways to perfect their own strains.”
  • Hydro-feed plant and supply store.

In addition to all that cannabis-specific activity, the ranch will also house an amphitheater for live performance, and campsites and cabins for “glamping” (glamorous camping, we had to look it up).

All that might sound a little like over-ambitious pipe dreams, the kind the Southern California cannabis community is used to seeing, but some aspects of Tyson’s dream sound pretty real and pretty cool.

At a groundbreaking ceremony on December 20, California City Mayor Jennifer Wood spoke about the “rebirth” that the cannabis industry would bring to the local community. The ranch site is near Edwards Air Force Base. According to The Blast, that reporters were “told the company that operates the ranch, Tyson Holistic, is comprised mainly of veterans, and says taking care of men and women who have served in the armed forces is a top priority.”

This could be a cannabis rebirth for Tyson as well. In 2000, the boxer’s technical knockout over Andrew Golota was nullified and made a “no contest” because Tyson tested positive for cannabis. But now the very same plant which cost him a fight might give him a whole new career.
