In our 4/20 brief last, um, 4/20, we posed the single most important question we could think of concerning the holiday in 2018: was Lil Wayne going to walk out on the High Times Cannabis Cup again? He pulled that stunt two years ago in San Bernardino when he left the stage mid-set, saying, “Don’t you ever call me to do this shit again. Ever. Don’t you, ever, ever, ever, ask me to do this shit again.”
Either the High Times people must be gluttons for punishment or Weezy must really need the money, because not only did they ask him again, he said yes again. And thankfully for the crowd in attendance on Saturday he did not walk off the stage mid-set. He just threatened the lives of the people in the audience.
As seen in a video obtained by TMZ, the rapper got a little testy when audience members threw something on the stage. That’s when Lil Wayne brought the show to grinding halt. “Hold up,” he said. “… Y’all trying to provoke something but I’m from New Orleans and we don’t know how to accept that shit.” He said that he didn’t want to end the show in a bad way, but, “I got New Orleans people with me and all they know how to throw back is shoot. They’ll just shoot.”
After one walkout and one threat of gun violence, the only question now is how will Lil Wayne top himself when he headlines yet another High Times Cannabis Cup next month in Sacramento, along with Lauryn Hill, Gucci Mane, and Rick Ross?
It is worth noting by the way that Weezy is not always so ill-behaved. Him and Lil Jon managed to get through a relatively chill set at the Mile High 420 Fest in Denver just last Friday, so maybe there’s just something about those Cannabis Cups that rub him the wrong way?
